One of the cranes built and installed by Morris Material Handling at the VA Tech Peebles Transformers factory in Leith, Scotland hit problems while undergoing load testing.
Morris says that the 200t SWL crane was “overloaded” during the test and had to be taken out again and retuned to its Loughborough plant for alterations.
The project, which also included delivery and installation of a 400t SWL overhead crane, featured on the cover of Issue Nine of HOIST which went to press before the problems materialised.
The problem crane has now been returned to VA Tech’s new factory. The client said that it was pleased with the speed of the repair work and looked forward to “other major projects around the world” with Morris.
Mike Maddock, vice president of Morris, said that the problem with the crane was “very unusual” and that the 400t model was working well in a number of large installations.
