The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) has honoured Ilkka Riikonen, chief engineer at KCI Konecranes, by awarding him the ISO Certificate of Appreciation. The certificate was presented at the ISO’s annual crane conference held in Kyoto, Japan in May.

The ISO Certificate of Appreciation was given to Riikonen in recognition of his contribution to the activity of international standardisation in cranes. He was chairman of the ISO technical committee for bridge and gantry cranes -TC96/SC9 – from 1983 to 2003. TC96 is the technical committee for cranes; SC9 is one of nine subcommittees.

Riikonen was also president the European Material Handling Federation (FEM) heavy lifting equipment section in from 1994 to 1996 and is currently convener of the committee for bridge and gantry cranes in the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN).

“Ilkka Riikonen can be considered an international master in structural crane analysis whose work has been widely recognised and has significantly increased the harmonisation of standards in the crane industry,” said his colleague Harry Ollila, who is group vice president of business development at KCI Konecranes.
