Eurotherm has brought to market new variable speed drives which have both AC and DC technology in the range.
Industrial machines often require varying degrees of drive technology. For example, a single machine might need simple volts/frequency control for fans or pumps, a closed loop vector drive for an AC application and also a high power DC drive.
Eurotherm says that end-users benefit from common programming, set up and communications as the programmer only has to learn one interface. Eurotherm’s 690+ series is the AC drive and the 590+ series is the DC drive.
An advanced current loop in the AC drive measures and controls current in both sensorless and closed loop vector mode instead of just limiting the peak value. Low speed running is smoother, and higher bandwidth (up to 700Hz) can be achieved, according to Eurotherm.
For the DC drive, it is available complete with the control elements required to complete the system.
