The UK firm already provides bespoke systems and installations to various gantry crane companies situated across the UK and Europe, including the Felixstowe container port, where a network of OMC-160 wind sensors have been installed on 30 quay cranes and six rail cranes.

Crane movement is inhibited once wind speed reaches a certain limit.

The alarm system also activates lights on cranes themselves and within the crane cab to alert relevant personnel.

Information is used to selectively shut down and reactivate operations of individual cranes, thus, operations maintain maximum efficiency, while downtime is limited, according to the manufacturer.

The information from each gantry crane is fed directly via Broadband or GPRS to Skyview's dedicated web service, Skylink-pro, where the weather data is published.
