Plans to build a waste recycling centre in Desborough, Northamptonshire, have been approved by the county council, local media reported recently. The GBP 60M plant will burn landfill waste and convert it into heat and power.

Origin Renewable Energy is the company behind the plan. The 1.7 hectare (4.2 acres) facility will be built off Eagle Drive near Magnetic Park in the town.

The company submitted the plans to the council in July 2012. Construction work is expected to start on the project in 2013 with completion expected in 2015.

However, the company will need to apply for a permit from the Environment Agency before starting operations. Origin Renewable Energy stated that it is a safe way to heat local premises while disposing of waste.
