Terminal operator Cosco Shipping Ports (CSP) Spain has ordered 11 eco-efficient hybrid rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) from Konecranes, with six units destined for the company’s terminal in Bilbao and the remaining five for its terminal in Valencia.

The order, worth approximately €20m, was booked in Q3 2022.

The order supports CSP Spain’s sustainability efforts and boosts productivity at the terminals. The cranes’ hybrid drives allow for an up to 50% reduction in diesel fuel consumption compared to conventional RTGs. In addition, the safety and ergonomics of the cranes will be supported by Konecranes smart features.

“This order underscores the strength of our RTG offering and we are proud to support CSP Spain in their commitment to increase eco-efficiency and productivity,” said Darryn Scheepers, sales manager EMEA, Port Solutions, Konecranes.

As well as the two maritime terminals located in Bilbao and Valencia, CSP Spain has two intermodal terminals, with one in Zaragoza and the other in Madrid. In addition, the group includes a railway operator, CSP Iberian Rail Services, which was created with the purpose of improving connections between its four terminals and providing an integral service throughout the logistic chain.

The Konecranes deal follows another it has with Terminal Del Golfo (TDG), which has ordered an eco-efficient Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbour Crane for its operation in La Spezia in north-western Italy.
