Italian industrial engineering and manufacturing company Bertolotti Industries has deployed an automatic overhead crane for aluminium ingot handling at a metals production facility, providing a solution tailored to demanding industrial logistics.

The installation aims to support heavy-duty aluminium operations by automating the transfer of ingots within the plant.

The automatic overhead crane spans 30.48m (100ft) and is characterised by a lifting capacity of 143,000lb.

Classified under CMAA Class F, the crane is designed for intense usage in heavy industrial environments, where moving large volumes of materials is a routine requirement.

The facility’s ingot handling processes now include five cranes, each engineered for speed and consistent performance.

Technical specifications indicate a hoisting speed of 20m/min, a trolley travelling rate of 40m/min, and a bridge travelling speed of 160m/min.

This configuration is intended to optimise plant intralogistics by enabling efficient, automated movement of aluminium ingots.

Bertolotti Industries developed the system to address specific needs of modern metals operations.

The company said: “Designed around the demands of heavy industrial material handling, it connects crane automation with the needs of production.”

Bertolotti Industries is based in Figline e Incisa Valdarno, in the province of Florence, Italy.

The group has provided turnkey automation systems since 1972. Its portfolio comprises overhead cranes, automatic warehouses, Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) systems, ground handling equipment, packaging lines, and bulk handling solutions.

The company highlights its experience in providing systems for steel coil handling as a core part of its business.

Last month, Bertolotti Industries finalised site acceptance tests for a new 63t/10t overhead crane built for the Arvedi AST plant in Terni, Italy. The company stated the testing was successfully completed, enabling the crane to be put into operation at the historic steel production facility.
