UK crane company Street Crane has supplied six cranes to a manufacturer of heat exchangers, as part of an expansion at the manufacturer to meet growing customer demand.

Thornhill Heat Exchangers, a UK-based manufacturer of rubber gaskets and plate heat exchangers, installed the cranes as part of an optimisation at its manufacturing capabilities at a new site in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, the base of its engineering division.

The company produces a wide range of industrial heat exchangers , which are used in a number of industries including steel manufacturing, food processing, the chemicals industry, and shipping.

Street Crane has now installed six cranes at the facility, five with a capacity of 15t and one with a capacity of 10t. Thornhill is using the cranes to lift materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, aluminium and titanium onto CNC-controlled machines used to manufacture the heat exchangers. The cranes will also be used to handle the newly-fabricated storage vessels that are produced on-site.

“This site is home to a new division which uses the latest technology and will significantly expand our product range,” said Mark Ingram, general manager at Thornhill Heat Exchangers. “We needed overhead cranes that would enable us to efficiently and reliably move large and heavy materials around the new site, ensuring maximum productivity.”
