Konecranes has completed the installation of six S-series overhead cranes at Contibelt’s manufacturing site in Stockerau, Austria.

Contibelt produces solid steel conveyor and process belts for industrial applications such as food processing, chemical solidification, and wood panel pressing.

Its products are customised for industries requiring temperature transfer, pressure application, or hygienic transport, offering solutions globally.

The new S-series cranes, ordered late last year and installed by July 2025, will support Contibelt in handling heavy steel coils.

The installation aims to enhance the efficiency and safety of Contibelt’s production processes, which focus on high-performance steel belts for conveyor systems.

Contibelt Austria sales manager Mario Mihaljevic said: “We’ve had a strong working relationship with Konecranes for many years.

“Some of our cranes had already far exceeded their expected service life. Additionally, we needed more modern control systems and higher load capacities.

“That’s why we invited several crane manufacturers to develop a solution that would meet our increased requirements without requiring any changes to the building.

“Only Konecranes was able to deliver. We’re very satisfied with the solution and with how the work was carried out.”

The newly installed cranes have lifting capacities between five and ten tons. Each runway holds two cranes that can operate in tandem, facilitating synchronised lifting.

Konecranes said the new cranes play a crucial role in manoeuvring steel coils through different stages of production.

The cranes feature anti-collision systems, tandem lifting capabilities, variable frequency drives, and load positioning controls, said the Finnish crane maker.

Konecranes South East Europe director Markus Köcher said: “This project continues a long-standing relationship between Konecranes and Contibelt, where we previously delivered cranes for their material handling in 2017.

“These new cranes are tailored to meet their current production demands with enhanced safety, control, and operational efficiency.”

Recently, Konecranes Hellas introduced the S-series cranes with synthetic rope in Greece, said to enhance durability, cost efficiency, and safety.

The synthetic rope contributes to increased productivity by extending the equipment’s lifespan and reducing the need for frequent replacements.
