Ingersoll-Rand has delivered what it claims is the most powerful hydraulic chain hoist system the world has ever seen.
The 400t-capacity system is made up from four 100t-capacity units designed and built at Ingersoll-Rand’s French plant at Douai. The system is to be used for blow out preventer (BOP) handling on a drilling platform.
From a central console one operator can control all four hoists in unison or individually. An articulated trolley allows side-pulling at up to 20° from vertical. For increased safety in offshore applications trolleys have a rack and pinion drive.
In the past, systems based on several hydraulic chain hoists have been built up from units with capacities of up to only 50t each, Ingersoll-Rand says. Other applications for these high lifting capacity hoists include cement plants, heavy industry, tunnelling and construction.
