Harold Potter has completed the installation of a 12m runway beam and new electrical power supply system for a customer in Ilkeston, England.

The new system was designed so the existing crane could operate across the full length of the runway beam. The project included removing the customer’s current hoist and re-fitting it to the updated runway beam, enabling continued use of existing lifting equipment on a newly upgraded infrastructure.

In addition to installing the new power supply, Harold Potter re-routed the site’s existing electrical connections to integrate the new beam with the client’s infrastructure, with the company stating steps were taken to minimise disruption during the process.

Comprehensive testing was carried out on the runway beam, hoist and electrical system to verify safe operation, followed by certification of the installation.

Harold Potter, in a LinkedIn post, stated: “Following successful testing, the installation was fully certified, providing the customer with confidence that the new lifting system met the required safety and operational standards.”

Recently, Harold Potter also completed a load test for four cranes at FP McCann in Byley. The work involved testing the A and B outdoor gantry extensions to ensure finished products could be moved into storage areas.

The company tested four cranes with capacities of 25t, 16t, 15t, and 10t. All deflections of crane bridge beams and gantry steelwork were measured and confirmed to be within regulated tolerances, the company said.

Harold Potter, established in 1921, supplies and installs lifting equipment, overhead cranes, and offers related services including inspections, repairs and maintenance throughout the UK.
