Flender, a German drive manufacturer, has announced plans to acquire the gears service business of Wärtsilä Brasil, which includes a facility equipped with multiple overhead cranes.
This service centre, located in Cabo de Santo Agostinho near Recife, Brazil, opened in 2022 and spans 5,000m². It is notable for its advanced wind gearbox testing capabilities and will be the first in Latin America with such features.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition remains subject to approval by Brazil’s antitrust authority, CADE, and other customary conditions.
Flender has created a subsidiary, Flender Brasil, to manage these assets post-approval. Both companies will operate independently until the transaction closes, which is expected by early 2026.
Flender Group CEO Andreas Evertz said: “Flender has taken a strategic leap to expanding our service network with the addition of Flender Brasil Ltda. This pivotal milestone ensures our commitment to Flender’s industry leading customer service.”
The strategic acquisition is aimed at strengthening Flender’s presence in South America by enhancing its service offerings in wind energy and industrial sectors. Wärtsilä, having long provided local services for Flender products in Brazil, will maintain its operations at the Cabo facility to support its Marine and Energy businesses.
This move solidifies Flender’s commitment to the expanding Brazilian market, focusing on wind gearboxes and industrial drivetrain applications. The acquisition will extend Flender’s global service network, positioning it for future growth in the region.
Flender wind service vice president Antti Turunen said: “Our wind service business has grown steadily, and the acquisition of the Brazil facility will further expand our reach and enhance our ability to serve customers across the region.”
