The davits have been installed onboard Royal Navy Type 22 and Type 23 frigates to deploy four different military rigid inflatable boat (RIB) variants, including the latest Pacific 24, in heavy seas up to sea state seven.
PJ Engineering Products Ltd fabricated all 34 davits in two batches at its Tyne and Wear facility. Houlder said the davit design includes heave compensation technology to safely launch and recover RIBs while they are underway at up to 20° of heel and 10° trim.
The first 28 C-type davits are already installed on operational warships. Houlder will now install and carry out trials at sea on the six remaining davits, which will be installed in pairs onboard HMS Argyll, HMS Cornwall and HMS Campbeltown.
