Over 20 customised cranes and hoists have boosted productivity at Wärtsilä’s delivery centre in Trieste, Italy.
Challenges included the installation of cranes compatible with a tracked conveying system that transports engines through the manufacturing and testing processes.
The structural steelwork of two large cranes, which will lift loads of 200 and 125t, was modified and fabricated using 355-grade structural steelwork, compensating for limitations on crane weight and dimensions, as well as assisting in meeting the coverage areas that the work cells demand.
All the cranes are fitted with Konecranes’ DynA inverters for controlling the speed of the electric motors, while a DynAPilot anti-sway system, which automatically damps load swing by employing intelligent motion profiles, is also present. Additionally, an overspeed function and remote controls were installed.
Sergio Razeto, vice president, Trieste delivery centre and president of Wärtsilä Italia, said: “The new cranes will contribute to improved productivity and efficiency in our manufacturing process.” Maurizio Tansini, Konecranes Italy operations manager, responded: “Our cranes are a key element of a production line that is now a showcase for heavy-equipment manufacturing efficiency.”
