4Cladding Services has successfully completed a load test of the Rota Boy, a vacuum handling device for composite roofing and wall panels.

The test involved lifting a 750kg weight using a 3,200kg overhead crane, surpassing the unit’s safe working load of 350kg. According to the company, the Rota Boy prevailed in a 750kg load test, which is more than double its safe working load of 350kg.

Rota Boy, developed by VIAVAC in cooperation with Kingspan, is the first vacuum lifting and turning unit designed specifically for composite panels. It can handle panels up to 20m long, catering to various construction applications.

The device aims to resolve health and safety issues linked with panel rotation, ensuring no damage occurs during the process.

4Cladding Services distributes VIAVAC’s panel turning units exclusively in the UK, providing equipment that meets international safety standards.

The Rota Boy employs vacuum suction technology to lift and rotate panels securely by 180°, minimising manual labour and potential panel damage. It is powered by rechargeable internal batteries and simplifies the handling of heavy panels in construction settings.

A crucial feature of the Rota Boy is its capability to enhance worksite safety while maintaining the integrity of construction panels. Its design allows for efficient installation processes, reducing both labour demands and risks associated with manual handling.

By using advanced vacuum technology, the Rota Boy ensures secure panel manipulation without distortion. This equipment is particularly advantageous for large-scale construction projects requiring precise panel placement.
