CoreRFID has invested in Apple Vision Pro headsets to develop what appears to be the world’s first virtual reality interface designed for real-time access to compliance data during live industrial operations.
The Liverpool-based company, whose CheckedOK software manages safety inspections for over 24,000 engineers worldwide, is targeting a persistent problem – engineers conducting critical work across construction, lifting equipment and energy sectors often cannot access the digital information they require when they need it most.
Engineers servicing cranes, pressure systems or other high-risk assets find smartphone and tablet screens inadequate for viewing detailed technical drawings. This happens whilst working at height, in confined spaces or in challenging environmental conditions.
The result is a dangerous compromise. Engineers revert to printed documentation that may be damaged, outdated or illegible on-site, despite having access to digital systems with current, verified information.
“We’ve seen countless situations where engineers have the right information in their system, but accessing it effectively on-site remains problematic,” said Munzi Ali, managing director and co-founder of CoreRFID. “VR offers the potential to create unlimited screen size within a spatial environment that makes sense to engineers working in three-dimensional spaces.”
CoreRFID’s research will test whether VR headsets can solve this. Engineers could access full-scale technical drawings, inspection histories, maintenance records and high-resolution photographic evidence simultaneously. The system would maintain handsfree operation and integrate directly with CheckedOK, which already manages compliance for over half a million sites globally.
This represents a departure from existing VR safety applications, which typically focus on training simulations or hazard awareness in controlled environments. CoreRFID are instead targeting actual field operations.
The company plans to expand research to Meta Quest and Microsoft HoloLens platforms once initial viability is established using Apple Vision Pro. CoreRFID will focus initially on recreating common inspection scenarios to test practical viability before considering commercial deployment.
Founded in 2007, CoreRFID has built CheckedOK into an international platform serving clients across multiple continents, with compliance capabilities covering UK LOLER and PUWER requirements alongside GA regulations in Ireland, and safety standard in Australia, Brazil, India and many other markets.

“We’re solving a problem that affects safety outcomes,” Ali added. “If we can eliminate the information barriers between digital systems and field operations, the benefits could be substantial.”
The research timeline remains experimental, with no confirmed commercial release date.
