Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your role as an industry leader?

My name is Aldo Luigi Carozzi and I’ve been working in the lifting industry since 2000.

Previously, I worked at IBM, then for a mortgage company and, before joining Misia, for a real estate company.

I must say that this is the job that gives me the most satisfaction and pride, because you play a leading role in the creation of industrial products, from semi-finished to finished products.

This is a field of engineering creativity that I’ve always found decidedly more interesting than more routine activities.

Can you tell us how you got into this industry and why?

I entered this sector thanks to a proposal made to me by the owner of Misia, who also owns a large company distributing ropes and lifting accessories, as well as the Italian distributor of KITO chain hoists.

Even though my previous job was very good and relatively “comfortable” in a splendid office in the centre of Milan, I immediately accepted the offer to work in the Misia workshop because I have always personally found working in manufacturing activities more satisfying than the service sector.

What makes your company stand out?

Misia has been manufacturing an extensive range of hoists for more than 40 years and stands out for its custom production, starting with standard components and offering a wide range of products.

Misia works with overhead crane manufacturers independent of the major industrial groups in the sector, engineering firms and potential lifting equipment distributors, offering a complete and customisable range.

Over 120,000 wire rope units have been sold worldwide and are operational in every industry sector. For example, Misia’s XM series range consists of 11 sizes with capacities between 1,000kg and 50,000kg.

The manufacturing of the standard version of XM series wire rope hoists covers over 90% of the company’s production, confirming the flexibility of the Misia product in adapting to many industrial lifting applications without subjecting the user to a bespoke product.

Misia’s XM range consists of 11 different sizes and capacities.

Furthermore, Misia never competes with its customers; we offer components but exclude the production of overhead cranes. Misia is well recognised for high price/quality ratio, flexibility of the products and availability of spare parts. We are highly flexible and, above all, quick in providing quotes and delivering products.

What do you like about the industry?

I really appreciate the concreteness of the products and the enthusiasm of the people who work there; I’ve noticed it in customers, suppliers and competitors.

In the service sector, I’ve always found fewer satisfied people and more frustrated ones.

Misia never competes with its customers.

Why should people want to join and work in this industry?

It’s certainly not boring work! It’s teamwork that requires a lot of initiative and creativity, so it depends a lot on the individual’s predisposition to work in such a context.

It’s also a job where unexpected events are possible, requiring the ability to improvise, a willingness to travel and flexibility.

Misia products are recognised for their high price/quality ratio.

What are your expectations for the industry going forward?

It’s not a growing sector, as industrial concentrations are gradually using increasingly automated systems, and overhead cranes will obviously play a marginal role.

Fortunately, artisanal businesses that use hoists are holding out, but their numbers are unlikely to increase.

Misia has many technical and commercial projects under development.

Are there any projects or initiatives that your company is working on that you’re particularly excited about?

Yes, we have many projects under way, both technical and commercial, but I can’t disclose them because, even if they’re not top secret, they’re still important and sensitive.

MISIA’S XM SERIES

The design of Misia wire rope hoist units is complemented by the use of quality components. All gearboxes are of planetary gear type, two or three stages and lubricated for life. Motors can be supplied either with cylindrical type with disc brake or tapered rotor conical motors, depending on application or customer preference. The rope guide is manufactured using high quality materials and bearings. Ropes are of high endurance class and galvanised. Monorail low headroom trolleys utilise Misia’s twin drive live axel design with planetary geared motors and gearboxes fitted directly onto the drive shaft of the trolley wheels eliminating the need of external gears.

The manufacturing of the standard version of XM series wire rope hoists covers over 90% of the company’s production. This confirms the flexibility of Misia’s products in adapting to many industrial lifting applications without subjecting the user to a bespoke product. The production of the new XM series includes 11 construction sizes for capacities between 1,000kg and 50,000kg, two or four rope falls, lifting speeds ranging from 1.5m/min to 12m/min, feet mountings allowing “supported” or “suspended” fixing (for foot mounted or double rail “crab” units). A wide range of travelling trolleys are also available in either double or monorail version, with the option of low or standard headroom, with a range of hoists with hook travel from 32–65m and over and capacity from 1,600–5,000kg, two rope falls and hoists with double output rope from the drum (4/2 reeving), capacity from 1,600–25,000kg.

Standard configurations

The XM series of Misia wire rope hoist are available in the following configurations:

S2 version (two rope falls):
Lifting capacity from 1,000kg to 16,000kg either supported or suspended.

S4 version (four rope falls):
Lifting capacity from 2,000kg to 32,000kg either supported or suspended.

D2 version (true vertical lift):
Lifting capacity from 1,600kg to 25,000kg.

Only in “supported” execution:
For capacities from 20,000kg up to 25,000kg, two rope falls. For capacities from 40,000kg up to 50,000kg, four rope falls.
