Coffing has issued a recall for 1/4 ton to 2-ton capacity (226kg to 1.8t) hoists made under the Dayton logo for distribution by industrial supplier WW Grainger in the USA.

Those hoists equipped with chain strippers that may allow the chain to become cross-linked as it feeds onto the load wheel, splitting the chain guide and breaking the hoist housing. In the 2-ton capacity model, the chain stripper is a secondary load support – so if the chain were to cross-link, and the hoist housing were to break, the load could fall. In smaller models, the hoist is only expected to jam.
Coffing instructs users to take the hoist down and ship it to the local Coffing service centre, which will replace the part and check the hoist for free. It is also paying for shipping costs. Dayton model numbers affected by the recall are: 3YB72 through 3YB99, 3YE10 through 3YE21, and 7E989 through 7E992. The date codes NT, PT, QT, and RT at the end of the serial number can also identify the Dayton hoists affected by the recall.
