World leaders: the Hoist top 50
24 March 2006

Welcome to Hoist's list of the top 50 most important people in the hoist industry. These people have shaped the course of the global business over their (sometimes long) careers, and hold the keys to its future.

Not all are businessmen and engineers; the list also includes regulators and organisers. This list is the result of nominations and suggestions from contacts and readers around the world, and in-house research.

The honour is to have been included in the list; we do not rank these people. For purposes of presentation we have organised all the winners alphabetically. The list is only limited to people who are working in the industry - retirees were not included.

 The internet popularity contest

Respondents to a three-month online survey on www.hoistmagazine voted Tim Tevens of Columbus McKinnon the most important hoist industry executive. Second was Shinjiro Kito, chairman of the board and father of managing director Yoshio Kito. Less popular were Harald Joos, CEO of Demag (third place), Pekka Lundmark of KCI Konecranes, and Lothar Buehne of Abus.
