The Rolls Royce Vietnam plant, part of the company’s global marine division, is operating nine Konecranes electric girder cranes and 12 Konecranes jib cranes.

Rolls-Royce Vietnam, based in the coastal province of Vung Tau 100km from Ho Chi Minh City, is an integral part of the Rolls-Royce marine services network spanning five continents with capabilities ranging from vessel design and systems integration to the supply and support of power and propulsion equipment. It serves the key marine markets not only of Asia, where most of the world’s ships are produced, but worldwide.

It relies on its fleet of nine Konecranes electric overhead girder cranes and 12 Konecrane jib cranes in nearly all phases of production and maintenance of the high-precision equipment that is required by quality and safety-conscious industries. This particularly includes offshore oil and gas operations. The plant’s output includes motion handling solutions, marine drives, pressure vessels, platform structures, bearings, marine cranes, anchor recovery systems, launch and recovery systems and custom-engineered structures that have to meet top world standards of engineering and safety.

The Vung Tau plant encompasses more than 50,000m2 and is comprehensively equipped to operate at optimum cost-efficiency in highly competitive markets.  Oil and gas organisations in particular are striving to maintain activity and output in an environment of lower oil prices over several years.

“Good reliable cranes are very important to our total production, efficiency and quality control processes,” says production engineer Ho Thanh Lam. “Our cranes are used many times in each continuous process of fabrication.”

Rolls Royce Vietnam undertakes total fabrication of diverse and complex structures. Its cranes are integral to processes such as plate handling, plasma cutting, grinding, welding, assembly, fitting of drives, bearings and gears, finishing, testing and loading the finished product. The Konecranes beam cranes, in total capacities up to 70t, include multiple mountings, such as 30t/30t/10t hoists. This gives maximum flexibility and safety when working around complex fabrications.

“Because all the key mechanical components are designed especially for crane usage the CXT is a top performer for competitive and quality conscious uses,” says Ho Thanh Lam. “Konecranes hoists are good quality, reliable and safe. And they are also easy to operate.

“If there are no cranes, the workshop cannot process its task, so reliability is critical.”
