China becomes target market

5 December 1999

Rival majors Morris Material Handling and KCI Konecranes have both opened new offices in the People’s Republic of China.

Morris has opened a representative office in Beijing, staffed by Chinese engineers who have been trained at Morris’s factory in Loughborough in the UK.

Konecranes has moved the Asia Pacific regional headquarters of its Special Cranes operations from Singapore to Shanghai. Shanghai was quickly gaining momentum in the region, the company said.

Morris is promoting its new 125kg to 5t electric chain hoist range in China. It has supplied Chinese projects since 1934. Recent contracts include turbine hall cranes for China’s first nuclear power station at Daya Bay, Guangdon Province, and quayside cranes at Tianjin and Shanghai.
