Reinvention, and remaining relevant, is arguably an essential tool to stay competitive in business. It's refreshing then to see the upcoming LiftEx event being proactive, rather than reactive, with its programme for visitors, and exhibitors, at the November show.

LiftEx 2015 descends on the new Liverpool Exhibition Centre next. More than 100 exhibitors from across the overhead lifting and working at height sectors will be on-hand to showcase their latest innovations during the two-day event.

The revamped and redesigned LiftEx takes place on November 11th-12th and for the first time, will also host the one-day LiftEx Industry Conference, that features a line-up of expert speakers from across the industry, addressing key topics shaping the future of safe, legal and efficient lifting.

According to the organisers, exhibitors will providing visitors with a "unique opportunity" to learn more about a comprehensive range of products, services and solutions.

I hope to see you there as it is sure to be a productive, worthwhile event for exhibitors and visitors alike. Turn to page 31 to read more about LiftEx, and some of the key product highlights on show throughout.

Elsewhere in this issue, manufacturing sectors across North America and Canada are experiencing mixed fortunes. Contraction in areas such as automotive is reversing the gains made earlier in the summer, but crane builders, manufacturers, and suppliers remain busy by focusing on their strengths. Keren Fallwell speaks to one crane builder each side of the border.

We also speak to GH, which produces a wide range of lifting equipment from its facilities in Spain, which are shipped and used across the world. Daniel Searle, from our sister publication Cranes Today, visited the company and found that from its network of three facilities in the Basque Country in the north of Spain -- and its fourth facility in Andalusia in the south of the country -- GH produces lifting kit for a wide range of sectors.

Finally, at the end of last month Terex Material Handling launched a new hoist unit, its DMR modular rope hoist, and we were kindly invited to the launch at its facility in Wetter, Germany.

With one basic technology, the hoist covers more applications than rope hoists currently available on the market, and offers a broad range of components that can be configured to create a rope hoist to meet the customer's specific application needs.

"The Demag DMR modular rope hoist also makes it easier to select the required hoist unit", explained Dr. Thomas Bönker, senior director of the components business line at Terex Material Handling.
