The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) has announced it will host a Lifting & Safety in Ports and Maritime event on Zoom on October 26.

The free event will welcome Richard Steele, head, ICHCA International (The International Cargo Handling Coordination Association), and LEEA colleagues who will be delving into safety issues surrounding work around ports and maritime organisations.

Steele joined ICHCA International in July this year, taking over from Richard Brough who retired after 11 years service. The association provides a focal point to help improve cargo handling throughout international supply chains as well as representing its members, and the cargo handling industry, in front of national and international agencies and regulatory bodies as a recognised non-government organisation.

Steele is also CEO at Port Skills and Safety (PSS), an organisation that he has led for 11 years, which is a subscriber organisation for UK ports with a remit to share best practice, develop safety guidance and standards and produce qualification frameworks for the industry.

Before PSS, he was the senior learning and development manager for Associated British Ports for 10 years and prior to that he worked in the nuclear industry on safety and skills provision.

The Lifting & Safety in Ports and Maritime event is open to anyone who has an interest in this topic or for those who work in the ‘wet logistics’ industry, including the maritime and ports sectors.

LEEA will be focusing on lifting equipment used in these settings. Ross Moloney, CEO of LEEA said: “The event aims to start conversations between LEEA members and end users, particularly those further up the supply chain, to share knowledge around lifting safely and make sure that normal practice is best practice.”
